Abstract   This volume is but a step in correcting the dearth of literature specific to community college athletics. Within this volume, we bring together scholars and practitioners from various academic disciplines and geographic locations to present information, discussion, and research on issues related to athletics at the community college. As we examine issues related to community college athletics, it is not our intent to answer all pressing questions on these topics. Rather, our purpose is to furnish a mechanism for further dialogue and improved practices, and to bring awareness of the importance of these issues for community colleges. Accordingly, the information will interest not only those whose work focuses directly on student athletes and athletics but also everyone who values the community college and its role in promoting success among its many types of students.
